Our Directors Gary Ford and Chris Mills have collaborated successfully in a range of businesses.
Their successful partnership continues with the acquisition of Kendra Energy Solutions in 2011.

Chris Mills

Managing Director

Chris has more than 30 years’ experience in the BEMS industry, ranging from engineering and commissioning large BEMS projects to successfully managing businesses for system manufacturers. He started as an Apprentice at Satchwell Controls Systems Ltd, where he gained valuable expertise in controls theory and building applications. He progressed at Satchwell to manage regional businesses before leaving to join Gary Ford to co-found BMSi in 1998. Chris is a member of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers and The Energy Institute.

In 2011 Chris & Gary re-joined forces to acquire and put in place a business plan to grow Kendra Energy Solutions, taking it from a 3 person business to over 100 direct employees.

Gary Ford

Managing Director

Gary has been involved in the energy management business for more than 35 years, managing a number of different businesses for corporate organisations as well as in the capacity of owner manager. After running several divisions of Satchwell Controls (now part of Schneider Electric), Gary, together with Chris Mills, launched a start-up business in the energy management field called BMSi in 1998. BMSi grew rapidly over the following 10 years, winning many prestigious industry awards, and were ultimately sold to Centrica in 2008, who saw them as the perfect platform to enter the Building Energy Management System market.

In 2011 Gary was back in the BEMS industry with the acquisition of Kendra Energy Solutions. Since then he and his management team have grown the business to a £10m plus company, which continues to grow profitably year on year.

Karl Armstrong

Southern & South-East Divisional Director

Karl has 19 years of engineering experience and a proven business development strategy within the BEMS industry. This expertise has meant the development of Kendra’s Southern and South East business divisions which encompass a team of engineers and support staff that are industry leading.

Karl joined the Royal Navy as an apprentice and gained nine years’ experience within a disciplined marine engineering environment. Upon joining the BEMS industry in a Trend engineering role, Karl quickly progressed into site maintenance management, followed by sales account management before making the move to Kendra in 2015. Kendra’s BEMS delivery team, paired with Karl’s enthusiasm and constant drive for excellence, ensures that customer expectations are always exceeded.

Karl enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf and cycling.

Stuart Davis

London Divisional Director

Stuart has more than 25 years’ experience within the BEMS industry. Previously part of the divisional management team at Schneider Electric, Stuart made the transition to Kendra in 2013, where he has built the London Division to a multiple million-pound revenue business.

Having started out as an Electrical apprentice, and then a Building Services Engineer for MTM, Stuart began his career in controls at Satchwell Controls Systems Ltd. Rising rapidly through the ranks at Satchwell’s he progressed from support and commissioning engineer to regional management, to a prominent divisional management position. At Kendra, Stuart is integral in ensuring the success and dynamism of the team and continues to help drive the company forward.

Stuart lives with his family in Suffolk where he’s been a drummer in a covers band for over 25 years and also enjoys badminton, 5-a-side football and running.

David Clayton

Midlands & South-West Divisional Director

David’s experience stems from a career spanning more than 35 years within the BEMS industry.  A key component of the Kendra team since joining the business in 2013, David is responsible for the management, success and growth of the South-West and Midlands region.

Starting out in the controls industry with Satchwell Controls Ltd in 1985 as an apprentice, David enjoyed time as both a service engineer and a service project sales engineer before progressing to a regional sales manager position within the company. Across the last two decades David has also worked for Schneider Electric as a Sales Manager in their London region, plus spent time with ENERG and Armstrong package plantrooms servicing the Energy market.

David’s impressive technical knowledge and his ability to find a solution to every challenge gives him an impressive tenacity for both work and life. David is key in supporting the regional growth that solidifies Kendra as a National provider.

David is a competitive sportsman and enjoys playing golf and armchair rugby. He is married with two adult children.

Paul Tonge

Northern & Scotland Divisional Director

Paul has worked within the building automation and facilities sector for over 30 years. Paul joined Kendra in 2017 to lead the continued growth and expansion of the company and to ensure the success of Kendra’s national presence across the North and Scotland.

Starting out with an engineering apprenticeship at Satchwell Control Systems Ltd, Paul developed his extensive expertise through roles in engineering, project management, operations, sales and leadership positions for several corporate organisations, including the successful management of a regional operations business.

Returning to the BEMS market after various FM roles across pharmaceuticals, automotive and corporate real estate, Paul went on to lead the UK central bureau operations and sales leadership roles for Schneider Electric. He also led commercial sales across the UK for global fluid management manufacturer Armstrong Fluid Technology, demonstrating successful growth in efficient buildings and district energy heating networks, packaged plantrooms and fire solutions. Paul’s knowledge, drive and expertise are essential to the progressive strides continuously being made at Kendra.

Paul enjoys the great outdoors, walking, cycling and boats with his family, especially now that he finally has a northern base.

Neil Gabriel

National Maintenance Sales Manager

Neil has had a varied career spanning across five decades, 30 years of which have been spent fully immersed within the service industry. Neil joined Kendra Energy Solutions in 2016 on the belief that he was joining the very best in the business and has been instrumental in a period of significant growth for Kendra.

Neil’s career began in 1978 when he completed an apprenticeship in Marine Engineering. He then changed paths in the early eighties and moved into data. A few years later his career took another change when he ventured into Printing and Publishing pre-press technology, spending seventeen years in engineering, service management and sales.

In 2003 Neil transitioned into the FM industry as an Account Manager and subsequently found his specialism in the BMS world. Since 2006 he has worked across sales and business development, meaning that he brings extensive experience in both Commercial Sales and Account Management, plus Operational and Planning Service expertise to Kendra’s ever-growing innovation-led team.

Neil has a wife and two daughters. He enjoys time with his family and friends, eating out, playing golf when he gets the chance, and following his football team Queens Park Rangers.

Katie Reading

Finance Manager

Katie Reading started her career in the Building Services industry in 2008 working for Chris and Gary at BMSi as a Regional Administrator. In 2010 she moved to Kendra Energy Solutions and over her 12 year career within the BEMS industry has progressed in her role to Office Manager and now to Finance Manager, where she is responsible for overseeing the companies robust financial processes, the upkeep of all financial systems and monthly management reporting. She also provides support to the executive management team across all regions of Kendra.

Katie is married with a young daughter and son. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, eating out and exercising (occasionally!).
