Striking GOLD with NCZ; how to go carbon neutral

Known for slashing the carbon emissions of its customer’s buildings, Kendra’s got a reputation for boosting energy efficiency. But with this status comes an expectation to lead by example, especially when it comes to hitting net zero targets.

Keen to ‘put its money where its mouth is’, metaphorically speaking, Kendra needed to understand its environmental impact on a deeper level. While efficient buildings are – of course -essential, they’re just one piece of a much larger net zero puzzle.

Teaming up with NCZ

To unpick its carbon footprint, Kendra had to delve into all business operations, from company vehicles and employee commutes to its supply chain. That’s why, in 2022, Kendra sought help from the Neutral Carbon Zone (NCZ), an independent carbon assessment specialist.

Pooling together all available data, NCZ established Kendra’s emissions baseline and created a detailed decarbonisation strategy. Equipped with built-in reduction targets, the strategy allowed Kendra to track its progress from the get-go.

Getting a CNZ Gold Certification

After being awarded a NCZ Silver Certification in 2022, Kendra widened its net in 2023 by going for gold. To do this, it had to demonstrate all its emissions (organisational and operational) had undergone an independent assessment to ISO standards, covering scopes 1, 2 and 3 emissions.

With its entire carbon footprint mapped out, Kendra now strategically reduces emissions as part of a targeted reduction plan. Tracking and evaluating its progress each year.

Going carbon neutral

Kendra’s taken numerous steps to establish itself as a carbon neutral company, including:

  • Remote support where possible
To triage remedial planning and avoid sending engineers to sites unnecessarily.
  • Geographical/commuting considerations
Engineers are sent to sites as close to their homes as possible.
  • Energy efficient buildings
Air quality sensors in Kendra offices promote comfort, wellbeing and energy efficiency.
  • Green electric vehicle (EV) fleet
Hybrid engine and battery vehicles on offer.
  • Offsetting emissions
Balancing unavoidable emissions for full carbon neutrality.
  • Complete transparency
Open and honest about reduction efforts and progress.
  • Complying to standards
Compliance to internationally recognised standards for calculating emissions.
  • Understanding environmental impact
With greater awareness comes environmentally responsible choices.

Here’s what our Energy Solutions Architect, Martin Edmondson, had to say

“With help from the Neutral Carbon Zone, we’re carbon neutral to Gold Standard. This covers the environmental impact of our business from both an organisational and operational position.

We provide intelligent BMS solutions that promote energy efficiency, a key component in reducing energy expenditure for our customers and their net zero journeys. By becoming carbon neutral and taking energy focussed steps, we’re able to practice what we preach. Not only does it mean a great deal to us but also our customers, because their supply chain is greener now too!

Every step of the way, Neutral Carbon Zone were knowledgeable and happy to help. From initial data collection, reporting and submissions, all the way through to the final stage of what carbon projects we could support”.

How does Kendra’s new certification impact you?

Thanks to its NCZ Gold Certification, working with Kendra will improve your carbon footprint. Not only will Kendra help reduce your building’s emissions, but your environmental impact will be reduced through your association with the company.

But it doesn’t end there… Kendra’s next step is to understand the specific impact of its wider supply chain so it can have an even bigger impact.
